Restoration features in video case study

Updated: 6 days ago

Te Hōnonga a Iwi’s Rosedale Park restoration has featured in a video case study developed by Climate Connect Aotearoa.

Climate Connect Aotearoa brings together business, government, Māori, academia, funders and investors, and climate innovators to create the solutions required to ensure Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand adapt and thrive in the face of climate change.

Project co-ordinator Nicky Shave shared insights on organisational resilience, key climate risks, and the power of collaboration in building resilience as part of the case study.

She says that 95 per cent of commercial organisations in Aotearoa, and globally, are small to medium sized businesses (SMEs).

"We have a large impact on the climate and biodiversity that we all depend on. It is easy to think we are so small, we cannot make a positive difference to nature and our community, yet, we are the biggest opportunity the world has to bend greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the climate risks we all face.

"I encourage all SMEs to invest in a brighter future, play to your strengths and take a climate positive action that is easy for your organisation. If possible, unite like we do at Te Hōnonga a Iwi: Restoring Rosedale Park, so you can benefit from being a partner in an award-winning nature-based solution that delivers much greater value to your company than it costs you to be a part of the project."

Sustainable business partnerships have shifted the dial in terms of what partnership means, Nicky says.

"SMEs can offer their local communities meaningful value that includes sharing their IP, undertaking working bees, loaning equipment, granting access, offering their rooflines to collect water, sharing energy, growing plants, greening their walls, trapping pests on site or nearby bush and donating materials or cash.

"Investing in mitigating and adapting to climate change, increasing biodiversity and increasing community health will attract and retain staff and future customers who expect sustainable action."
